ecoACTIVE Theory of Change
When people have meaningful opportunities to learn about nature, connect with green spaces, and take practical climate action together, communities become healthier, fairer and better prepared for the future.
ecoACTIVE partners with schools, residents and organisations in East London, especially those most affected by environmental injustice, to build knowledge, confidence and leadership through hands-on sustainability experiences. From outdoor learning and youth skills development to nature restoration, community growing and workplace climate training, we provide inclusive pathways for people of all ages to act on the climate and nature crises.
We believe that change is strongest when it is local. By transforming underused spaces, strengthening community networks, and promoting behaviours that support low-carbon living, we help create neighbourhoods that are resilient, environmentally thriving and socially connected.
Our work delivers impact across nine interconnected areas
Health & Wellbeing
We champion the power of nature to improve mental and physical health. By helping people spend more time outdoors, connect socially and develop confidence in natural environments, our programmes can reduce stress, isolation and inactivity, supporting happier, healthier lives.
Climate Justice & Environmental Equity
We work to ensure that communities disproportionately affected by climate and environmental harms have equal access to the knowledge, support and opportunities needed to take action. Our approach prioritises inclusivity, fairness and co-creation, empowering residents who have historically been left out of sustainability conversations to lead the change in their own neighbourhoods.
Nature Restoration & Biodiversity Net Gain
We take action to restore nature in the city, creating and caring for habitats that support pollinators, wildlife and healthy ecosystems. By increasing biodiversity in urban areas, we help make neighbourhoods more climate-resilient, more attractive and more ecologically vibrant.
Net Zero & Carbon Reduction
We empower schools, workplaces and communities to understand and reduce their carbon footprint through achievable, evidence-based climate actions. By embedding sustainability into daily decisions and organisational practice, we support the transition to a low-carbon future.
Community Resilience & Regeneration
We support communities to adapt to the challenges of climate change and to revitalise neglected spaces into vibrant environments that residents can be proud of. By strengthening local networks and community ownership, we help create places that are safer, stronger and more resilient , both socially and ecologically.
Youth Empowerment & Green Skills
We inspire young people to become leaders in the green transition through hands-on learning, creative problem-solving and skills for future employment. From climate literacy and environmental awareness to teamwork and practical green skills, we help young people feel capable, informed and ready to shape the world around them.
Sustainable Living & Food Security
We enable households and communities to make everyday choices that protect the planet and support wellbeing. Through practical learning and behaviour change, we help people grow more food locally, reduce waste, save money and adopt low-carbon lifestyles that benefit both people and the environment.
Place-Based Community Impact
We focus on strengthening East London communities, collaborating with local partners who deeply understand local context and priorities. This place-based approach creates stronger relationships, better outcomes, and long-lasting change rooted in local ownership and pride.
Nature Connection
We believe that when people feel emotionally connected to the natural world, they are more motivated to protect it. Our experiences nurture this connection, encouraging curiosity, care and a lifelong love for nature that inspires individual and collective climate action.
