ecoACTIVE (Charitable Unincorporated Organisation number 1180582) is an innovative environmental education charity with a reputation for using hands-on, practical approaches to explore complex issues of sustainability. ecoACTIVE envisions a world where young people and communities are agents of change for creating a better planet. We design and deliver interactive workshops to empower people to take meaningful action on sustainability.
We create eye-opening experiences for children and adults alike, running workshops in schools, projects in parks, community gardens, and projects with community groups and housing associations.
ecoActive is a unique locally-driven initiative aimed at getting Londoners more engaged in sustainability through interactive workshops and learning activities. We embrace the concept of “Think Global; Act Local”, by helping school and community groups to understand critical global issues and the small actions they can take to make a difference.
Our immersive activities, which we bring directly to your classroom, community centre or outdoor space, can be life-changing for those who participate. The ecoACTIVE team is made up of people who are passionate about both the environment and the power of education. They make environmental issues come to life, with easy-to-understand explanations and exciting exercises. Many of our session workers are previous teachers and our workshops are created to align with the National Curriculum, so you can be sure that working with ecoACTIVE is well worth it.
In addition to sessions and workshops, we also support long-term sustainability projects over the course of weeks and months, such as setting up community gardens, regenerating disused green spaces and helping schools to transform how they operate to be more sustainable.
We can provide a single or series of sessions tailored to your needs, focusing on anything from waste and recycling or setting up a garden to climate change or water conservation. We will work with you to figure out what kind of workshop will work best and then find a time for ecoACTIVE to come to your school or centre. It is best to get in touch with us as early as possible to ensure that we are available.
So if you want to save on energy bills, create a community garden, develop a waste art project, sort out your recycling or simply raise people’s awareness of sustainable development and what it might mean for them, get in touch and we’ll develop an outreach activity designed just for you.
And if you’re a Hackney school, take a look at our programme of free activities available to primaries and secondaries across the borough – funded by the London Borough of Hackney to help schools manage their energy and waste more effectively.
History of EcoACTIVE
We started our work as ecoACTIVE in 1999, with the goal of helping children, adults and youth groups to think creatively about the planet as well as their own behaviour and its impact on the world around them. We hope that, through our connections with the communities of Hackney and north-east London, we can help develop positive responses to issues such as waste management, fuel poverty, biodiversity and food production.
