Provide your pupils with valuable insights into the realm of green jobs and careers, igniting their thoughts about a potential future in this sector.
Course includes a team-work project activity to come up with action plan to solve an environmental problem, for example: pollution on the river Lea. Presentation of 5 different roles in the sector, introducing their role and why they chose it, and how they would have solved the problem. (Sustainability Consultant, Engineer, Ecologist, Eco-artist/activist, Local Authority Officer).
The workshop will also help students understand what green skills are and to put them to use in a practical real scenario, wearing the shoes of one of the green jobs that are presented.
What to Expect from the Green Careers Workshop:
Introduction to Green Careers: Students will learn about the shift to a sustainable economy and the rise of green jobs, aligning with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals. They will explore various sectors transitioning to greener practices, including food production, waste management, and renewable energy.
Interactive Team Activity: Students will assume the roles of green professionals (such as ecologists, engineers, sustainability consultants, and eco-artists) to collaboratively tackle a real-world environmental issue—the restoration of the polluted Lea River. They’ll develop a creative, comprehensive plan to improve the river's ecological health and present their strategy through a role-play, presentation, or performance.
Real-World Inspiration: ecoACTIVE's dedicated team and guest speakers from various green professions will share their experiences, offering students a glimpse into the many career paths available in the sustainability sector.
Practical Green Skills: The course emphasises lifelong learning and skills development, encouraging students to think critically, work collaboratively, and apply problem-solving and systems thinking to environmental challenges.
